Me and my girlfriend have genital herpes but, what I need to know is if we're having outbreaks and still having unprotected sex repeatedly for 6 yrs. now. Can we get HIV even though we've only been having sex with each other exclusively, unless one of us contracted the HIV disease during the herpes transmission, right? I mean no matter how much we have sex with each other, we can't come down with HIV,right? Also, having sex during herpes outbreaks, can we keep giving it back to each other or once you have it, it's over?

HIV is transmitted through sexual contact, IV drug use and rarely by needle sticks or such. If you and your partner are monogamous and do not use IV drugs, and so far have been negative for HIV, there is no risk. As for herpes. Once you get it, it is yours for life, no passing back and forth!
